In the spring of 2019, at a dinner with Tom Kalil of Schmidt Futures, Laurence first got excited about applying Outcomes Based Contracting to the K-12 sector. Tom provided seed funding that allowed Laurence and Sarah Glover to incubate the initiative, initially at Harvard. As it grew, Laurence approached Raymond Pierce who quickly saw the connection between OBC and the long-term mission of the Southern Education Foundation. The initiative moved to the Foundation and continued to grow under the leadership of Brittany Miller, who was in fact one of the first to implement OBC in a school district. Laurence is a Senior Advisor at XQ Institute and was previously Chief Product Officer of Amplify where he oversaw products today used by millions of K-12 students and teachers.
